Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 October 2026
TabVolume processes the selected browser tab’s audio locally to adjust its volume. The extension does not record or upload that audio, and does not transmit tab information or volume settings to the developer or third parties.
1. What this policy covers
This policy describes the data handled by the TabVolume Chrome extension. Its single purpose is to let you adjust, boost, or mute a selected browser tab’s audio from 0% to 600%.
2. Tab audio
When you click “Enable volume control,” TabVolume captures the selected tab’s audio stream, processes it through the Web Audio API in memory, and plays it through your device’s audio output at the selected volume. It requests audio only, without requesting video or microphone access.
The extension does not create audio recordings, save audio to storage, upload audio, or share it with the developer or third parties. Audio capture stops when the extension ends the volume-control session.
3. Tab information
After you invoke the extension, TabVolume accesses the selected tab’s ID and title to identify and display the tab being controlled. It briefly reads the tab’s URL to check whether the page supports volume control. The URL is not stored or transmitted.
TabVolume does not read the page’s DOM, scrape page text, or access your full browsing history. It does handle the selected tab’s title, URL, and audio as described above.
4. Information stored on your device
TabVolume stores volume-control state in Chrome’s local extension storage under the key tvState. This includes:
- Whether a volume-control session is active;
- The controlled tab’s numeric ID and title;
- The selected volume level;
- The previous nonzero volume used for mute and unmute.
This state allows the popup to display the current controls when reopened and lets the background service worker reconcile the session after restarting. These records stay in local extension storage and are not uploaded or synced by the extension.
5. Retention and your controls
Local extension storage can persist after Chrome closes. On the next browser launch, TabVolume’s startup handler clears its session state when no offscreen document exists; capture does not automatically reactivate. Session cleanup also stops the audio tracks.
You can use the extension’s stop/reset control to end volume processing. Removing TabVolume from Chrome deletes its local extension storage.
6. Sharing, tracking, and payments
TabVolume has no analytics, advertising, telemetry, account system, or payment system. The extension does not send user data to external servers, sell user data, or transfer it to third parties.
7. Why these permissions are needed
- activeTab: Identifies the tab on which you invoked the extension and provides temporary access to its title and URL.
- tabCapture: Obtains that tab’s audio stream after you enable volume control.
- offscreen: Runs the local audio-processing document so volume control continues after the popup closes.
- storage: Saves the local control state described in this policy.
8. Limited Use
TabVolume’s use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. The extension uses this information only to provide its disclosed tab-volume-control functionality. It does not use it for advertising, unrelated profiling, creditworthiness, or lending.
9. Policy updates
This policy will be updated if TabVolume’s data practices change. The date at the top identifies the latest revision. Any future features that change how information is handled will be reflected in the policy and relevant Chrome Web Store disclosures.
10. Contact
For privacy questions, contact TabVolume’s developer using the publisher contact email displayed on the extension’s Chrome Web Store listing.
